Arshad Khan has set a new record for the best bowling figures in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The left-arm pacer finished with extraordinary figures of 6/9 against Chandigarh at the Jadavpur University Ground in Kolkata.
Previously, this record was held jointly by Gujarat’s Arzan Nagwaswalla and Hyderabad’s T. Ravi Teja, who both took 6/13 in the 2023 edition of the tournament. DS Punia, who played for Services, stands third on the list with 6/14, followed by Baroda’s Swapnil Singh, who took 6/19.
Arshad struck twice in his first over against Chandigarh, bowling Arjun Azad for a duck and trapping the team’s captain, Shivam Bhambri, LBW for a duck. In his next over, he took the wicket of wicketkeeper-batter Nikhil Thakur.
The 27-year-old pacer ran through Chandigarh’s lower middle order in the 19th over, taking three wickets. He bowled four overs in total and conceded just nine runs at an economy rate of 2.20.
Arshad’s heroics helped Madhya Pradesh restrict Chandigarh to 134/8. Chasing the modest target, wicketkeeper-batter Harsh Gawali’s unbeaten 74 and Harpreet Singh Bhatia’s 48 ensured that Madhya Pradesh won the match by seven wickets with 36 balls to spare.
The bowling all-rounder represented Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and took six wickets in nine matches. Ahead of the upcoming mini-auction, he has been retained by the 2022 IPL winners.
