Vaishnavi Sharma’s consistency across domestic tournaments finally earned her a long-awaited reward when she was named in India Women’s squad for the upcoming five-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting December 21, 2025.
It has been a dream year for the 20-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner from Madhya Pradesh. She played a key role in India’s second consecutive Women’s U19 T20 World Cup triumph, picking up 17 wickets in six innings. She then went on to finish as the highest wicket-taker in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025 for Madhya Pradesh and the second-highest wicket-taker in the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy 2025 for the Central Zone.
Despite those performances, Vaishnavi surprisingly went unsold at the WPL 2026 mega auction. However, with her maiden India call-up, she is now set to experience the senior team dressing room for the first time.
Ahead of joining the squad, Vaishnavi visited the Tansen Cricket Academy, where she trains under her childhood coach, Lovekesh Chaudhary. In an exclusive chat with RevSportz, she spoke about her India call-up, dealing with the WPL disappointment, her mindset, and the role her coach has played in her journey.
When did you first find out about your India call-up, and what was that moment like?
I was in Indore, sitting with my brother in his flat, when I received a call saying, ‘Vaishnavi, you have been selected for the India team for the Sri Lanka series. Let us know your jersey number.’ That was when I first found out, but the list was not confirmed then.
Later in the evening, when the confirmed list was made public, I received a call from team India player, Sneh Rana. She congratulated me and gave me a lot of good wishes for the upcoming games. It was very exciting. At the same time, I was attending a school event as a chief guest, so it became a double celebration for me.

How difficult was it to process going unsold at the WPL auction?
At that time, it was hard. I was hurt and sad. Then I told myself that I had done whatever was in my control. Whether it happens or not is not in my hands. I did what I could.
I told myself, ‘Okay, no problem, I will do better in the future.’ My parents called and encouraged me a lot. I also received many messages from fans on Instagram, which really helped.
Even my selectors and teammates supported me. After that, I decided to leave it there and move forward, believing that whatever happens will be for the good.
2025 has been a remarkable year for you. What has been the mindset behind this consistency?
My main aim was to stay disciplined, committed to my work, and follow my daily routine. I focused on my strengths and trusted the process.
Throughout my journey, I have tried to repeat the same process-being disciplined, thinking positively, visualising, manifesting, believing in God, and having faith in His plans. I kept things simple and focused on improving my mindset every day.
This helped me a lot, especially in pressure situations.

How important has Lovekesh Sir’s role been in your journey?
Sir’s contribution has been immense. I always say that behind every success, there are heroes working behind the scenes. Since I joined this academy, my performances have improved everywhere. This place has been lucky for me, as it gave me a platform to perform.
Lovekesh sir provides me with all the facilities. Even if the ground is full, he makes space for me to practise. He comes at any time, even late at night, turns on the lights, and supports me mentally as well. At times, even when my parents get worried, sir speaks to them, motivates them, and helps them understand. His support has been constant.
Who are your cricketing idols?
I used to watch Radha Yadav as a left-arm spinner. And now, Sneh Rana. She is a very good person and extremely supportive. She explains things, takes me along, and inspires me with her personality. I learn a lot from her, and it feels really good when she talks to me.
