Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has confirmed he will leave the Premier League club this summer, bringing an end to a decade-long association with the North London outfit.

The 33-year-old South Korean forward, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, made the announcement at a press conference in Seoul ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle United on Sunday. Son is under contract until 2026, but has opted to move on following Tottenham’s UEFA Europa League triumph in May—a win that ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

“I have decided to leave the team this summer,” said Son. “It was one of the most difficult decisions of my career. Playing for one team for 10 years is something I’m extremely proud of. I gave everything, on and off the pitch.”

Son departs having scored 173 goals in 454 appearances for Spurs, including winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021–22 season. He captained the side to Europa League glory, a landmark achievement in both his career and the club’s recent history.

While he did not disclose his next destination, multiple British reports suggest a potential move to Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC.

Reflecting on his journey, Son said: “Tottenham was where I grew as both a footballer and a person. I’m forever grateful.”

Spurs manager Thomas Frank hailed him as a “true Spurs legend,” and praised the timing of his exit: “Going out on a high is the best way.”
