JSW Soorma Hockey Club are on the brink of securing a spot in the Final of the Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2024-25. They need just one point against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi tomorrow to confirm their place.
“Our focus throughout this campaign has been to win every game we play. Right now, the match against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers is our priority. It’s the most important game for us at this stage. Once that’s done, we’ll think about what’s next. But first, we need to take care of business in the next game,” said Head Coach Jude Menezes.
Soorma have been dominant in the League, leading the table with three wins and a draw, totaling 10 points ahead of their final Pool stage match. Forward Sonam has been in exceptional form, scoring four goals in five matches, while Charlotte Englebert has added two more. All 11 of their goals have come from open play, as penalty corner conversions remain a challenge across teams in the League.

“We’re struggling with the initial trap during penalty corners, and it’s not just us. Other teams have also found it difficult to convert from penalty corners. We’ll keep working on it, but our forward line is strong, and our defense is solid and compact. With the quality we have in attack, we’re confident in our ability to score goals,” Menezes explained.
In their previous encounter with the Bengal Tigers, Soorma came back from a goal down to secure an impressive 4-1 victory in their opening match. Olivia Shannon, Charlotte Englebert, Captain Salima Tete, and Sonam all found the back of the net in a dominant team display.
“Our approach will remain the same—focus on creating opportunities in the shooting circle, scoring goals, and playing an aggressive, free-flowing attacking style that suits our game,” Menezes concluded.
