India’s batting great Sourav Ganguly will be the next head coach of the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, which is scheduled to start on December 26. He will succeed Jonathan Trott in that position.

Ganguly will be taking the role of a head coach of any franchise for the first time. Pretoria Capitals confirmed the news on their Instagram handle. “The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach. The Centurion awaits.”

The former India captain served as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal for four years, from 2015 to 2019. He was the mentor of Delhi Capitals for a couple of seasons before leaving that role to become the president of BCCI. JSW appointed Ganguly as their director of cricket last year.

His first priority after joining the Pretoria Capitals will be the player auction coming up on September 9. This will be the fourth season of the tournament, and the Pretoria Capitals’ performance has been mixed so far. In the first season, they were the table toppers but lost to Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final. In the next two seasons, they failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished second-last. The franchise will be hoping for a better result under Ganguly in the upcoming season.
