Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on September 28.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh is the Punjab Cricket Association’s (PCA) nominee at the AGM. Ganguly served as the BCCI president from 2019 to 2022. Harbhajan, who flourished as an off-spinner under Ganguly’s captaincy, could even file his nomination for an office-bearer’s post this term. Elections for all the office-bearers’ posts would be held at the AGM and for the candidates, the dates to file the nominations are September 20 and 21. September 12 was the deadline for the state associations to nominate their representatives.
It is learnt that the Apex Council of the CAB unanimously decided to nominate Ganguly to represent the state body at the AGM. The former India captain, however, is not throwing his hat into the ring for the BCCI president’s post. He is set to return as the CAB president instead and will submit his nomination, along with his panel, on Sunday. Ganguly’s elder brother Snehasish, the incumbent CAB president, cannot continue as per the Lodha Committee guidelines.
As reported by RevSportz, the Mumbai Cricket Association has nominated its vice-president Sanjay Naik to be at the AGM. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association has nominated IPL chairman Arun Dhumal to represent the state association. Rajeev Shukla will represent the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. The Saurashtra Cricket Association would be represented by Jaydev Shah. As regards the Baroda Cricket Association, Pranav Amin is their representative at the AGM, putting an end to speculations that former India wicketkeeper Kiran More could be in the fray.
