The newly appointed President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly, was seen at the practice session of the Bengal senior team held at the JU Second Campus Ground in Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Being an inspirational captain himself, Ganguly encouraged the players with his motivational words.

The former BCCI President also spent time with some players individually, offering technical advice on both batting and bowling. He was seen giving tips to Abishek Porel, with whom Ganguly had worked at Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL.

Bengal had a disappointing season last year, as they failed to qualify for the knockout stage, finishing third in Group C with just two wins from seven matches.

Their best performance in recent years came in the 2022–23 Ranji season, when they played Saurashtra in the final but ended up losing the match.

This year, they have a strong chance to achieve a better result, with several key players available for selection.

Out-of-favour Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has made himself available for the season as he looks to make a return to the national team. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who did not get a chance in England and was not selected for the squad against the West Indies, will also be looking to perform well in order to regain his place in the Indian side.

In addition, they have prominent names like Mukesh Kumar, Abishek and Ishan Porel, among others. Akash Deep, who has made an impression in the national team, will also be a valuable asset for Bengal whenever he is available to play.

Bengal are set to kick off their 2025–26 Ranji Trophy campaign against Uttarakhand in a home game at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 15 October.
