While the IPL schedule is announced. the venues for the play off and the finals haven’t been announced just yet. In the original schedule Kolkata was set to host the play off and the final.
In fact there is no clarity yet on the venues with some sources suggesting Mumbai and Ahmedabad are in line as new hosts. The reason being assigned is the weather in Kolkata in early June. Apparently there are reports of possible showers. However, early June is hardly ever impacted by rain going by statistics and if the last few years are anything to go by, there has hardly been any weather issues in the first 10 days of June say people tracking developments in Kolkata.
Also, it is impossible to predict weather patterns 3 weeks in advance and no MET department can give a firm answer as early as this.
From what we have learnt, back channel talks are on and CAB has indeed put forward their side of the story and point of view. It is also learnt that the President is determined to do his best and make a strong case.
CAB got the rights to host the final after 12 years and understandably don’t want to let it go. In fact, don’t be surprised if MET experts come into the picture in the next 48 hours on this matter. The IPL final is one of the most important matches of the Indian cricket calendar and no association wants to leave it. So while Mumbai and Ahmedabad are now in the fray big time, the decision hasn’t been firmed up yet. Had it been the case the announcement would be made. This could well be another T20 humdinger and can go to the last over. MET experts suggesting weather patterns, intrigue over IPL playoff and final venue.
