South Africa’s T20I captain Aiden Markram has been named by Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) as the skipper for the next season of SA20. Markram is the most successful captain in the tournament. He led Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) to two titles in the three seasons played so far.
DSG bought Markram for a massive R14 million at the auction, and he became the first player to cross the R10 million mark in the SA20. Both DSG and Pretoria Capitals (PC) were interested in Markram, but DSG came up with the highest bid at R12.4 million. However, SEC exercised their right to match card. DSG finally won the bidding war for Markram.
DSG have a link with the IPL side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Both teams come under the same owner, the RPSG group.
LSG bought Markram for his base price of ₹2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. The 30-year-old right-hander performed brilliantly, playing 13 matches and scoring 445 runs at an average of 34.23 and a strike rate of 148.83, which included five fifties with a best score of 66.
He was the hero for South Africa with a match-winning century in the 2025 ICC World Test Championship final. He is currently leading South Africa against England in the T20I series and scored 41 runs off 20 balls in the second match.
