India captain Suryakumar Yadav set a perfect example of spirit of cricket when he withdrew a stumping appeal against UAE’s Junaid Siddique during the Asia Cup match at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.

During the 13th over of the UAE innings, Siddique was dismissed in what was a moment of carelessness from the batter. After facing a bouncer from Shivam Dube, he went out of the crease while trying to signal something to the umpire. India’s wicket-keeper Sanju Samson dislodged the bails and appealed. The third umpire’s decision was out as Siddique was out of the crease when the bails were taken off. The decision was out but Suryakumar Yadav had a quick word with the onfield umpire and withdrew the appeal.

India withdrew the stumping appeal after it became clear that Siddique’s distraction was caused by Dube’s towel slipping from his waist during the run-up. The camera showed Siddique pointing it out to the umpire as he stepped out of his crease. Though Siddique was out according to the rules, India showed sportsmanship spirit to allow Siddique to continue with his innings.

Siddique could not do much after getting the chance as he was sent back to the pavilion by Dube in that very over.

At the end, India won the match comprehensively by nine wickets and 93 balls to spare.
