Only two batters managed to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) possibly reach a defendable target of 144 against the Mumbai Indians. When the situation looked devastating and all hopes seemed lost—SRH having lost four crucial wickets in the initial overs of the first innings—a dynamic duo stepped up with a strong partnership. Heinrich Klaasen and today’s Impact Player, Abhinav Manohar, turned things around from the sixth wicket onwards, putting together a 99-run stand off 65 balls.
Klaasen stood out with an impressive 71 off 44 balls before a perfect yorker from Jasprit Bumrah broke the partnership. Manohar kept the momentum going briefly. After reaching 36 off 34 balls, he managed to finish with 43 off 37 before being dismissed by a brilliant delivery from Trent Boult.
It was a much-needed recovery for SRH, and they will hope it proves enough to stall MI from claiming victory today.
SRH struggled in the early innings
SRH faced a major collapse at the start of their innings. MI bowlers struck early, delivering a big blow to the home side. Back-to-back wickets saw Travis Head dismissed for a duck, Abhishek Sharma for 8, Ishan Kishan for 1, and Nitish Kumar Reddy for 2.
The Klaasen-Manohar partnership offered some stability in the middle overs, but once it ended, the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t add much. Contributions from bowlers like Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel weren’t enough, and SRH were restricted to a modest total of 144.
