Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that the original schedule of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has changed. This decision was taken because Sri Lanka will host the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 alongside India, and they have to focus on improving the stadium infrastructure and player facilities.

SLC said: “As per the guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC), all host venues for the upcoming 20-team event must be in perfect condition to meet the demands of a major international competition.”

Renovation work is currently going on at three venues across the country. The renovation work of the R. Premadasa Stadium (RPS), which is paused because it is hosting the 11 matches of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, will resume after the tournament ends.

SLC took the decision strategically to provide world-class facilities in the T20 World Cup. The board also confirmed that the LPL will be conducted in a suitable time frame.
