Australian captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that both Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell will miss the first ODI of the three-match series against India, on September 22, in Mohali.

“Starcy is here. He won’t play tomorrow but he’ll hopefully be available later on in the series. Same with Glenn Maxwell. He won’t tomorrow but hoping he will come back,” said Cummins in the press conference on Thursday (September 21).

Starc is still in the process of recuperating from “groin soreness” that he experienced following his participation in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final and the Ashes tour in the United Kingdom.

On the other hand, Maxwell, who had previously suffered a broken leg, further aggravated his ankle during a training session in South Africa. Consequently, this injury ruled him out of the five-match ODI series against the Proteas.
