The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has been given the green light by the state government to host international and IPL games at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. A few days ago, sources close to KSCA had said to RevSportz, “We are confident that we will get international matches. That means IPL can be staged as well”.
The KSCA made the announcement via a press note: “The permission is subject to compliance with specific terms and conditions prescribed by the Government and the concerned authorities. KSCA is confident of fulfilling all the stipulated conditions.
“The Association has already presented a detailed compliance roadmap before the Expert Review Committee and remains fully committed to implementing all safety, security, and crowd-management measures in letter and spirit.”
In the aftermath of the tragic events of June last year, when a victory celebration turned into a stampede, killing 11 people, no cricket match has been held at the stadium. Although there were reports that certain Vijay Hazare Trophy games would be played at the Chinnaswamy, at the last minute, they were shifted to the Centre of Excellence. Incidentally, Virat Kohli partook in both those games.
