Out-of-favour England all-rounder Liam Livingstone has revealed that he has not heard from the selectors since being dropped from the white-ball teams, and remains unsure about his future despite being in the best form of his life.
Once a regular in England’s white-ball set-up, Livingstone hasn’t been picked in an ODI or T20I squad since the team’s horrific Champions Trophy campaign, where they failed to reach the semi-final. In three games, Livingstone scored 33 runs in three innings, which led to his omission.
“Obviously, I didn’t have a great series in India and Pakistan and I held my hands up: I wasn’t good enough out there. “But I probably wasn’t the only one,” Livingstone was quoted by ESPN Cricinfo as saying during talkSPORT’s ‘Following on podcast’.
In his 30s, Livingstone, who was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022, feels he’s in his prime and can contribute in order to help his team lift their third world title in the 20-over format next year.
In-form Livingstone Eyes England Comeback
“I absolutely love playing for England… Nothing makes me prouder than being able to represent my country. At my age now, I feel like this is where people start to really come into their prime as a batter. “You look at Jos (Buttler) over the last few years and I feel like, coming into a (T20) World Cup year, I could really help an England team go a long way to winning a World Cup,” added Livingstone.
In the ongoing Hundred competition, Livingstone is currently topping the run charts with 211 runs at an average of 70.33 and a strike-rate of 166.14.
“I feel like I’m still good enough to play for England. But I haven’t had a single word since halfway through the IPL, so I don’t really know where I stand, to be honest… I probably feel like, right now, I’m playing as well as I ever have done in my whole career.”
Having been dropped for the white-ball series against South Africa and Ireland, on the back of his recent performances, Livingstone could make a return for the New Zealand tour in October.
