Renowned Indian cricketer turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar recently shared his insights regarding the potential of MS Dhoni becoming the coach of the Indian national team at some point in the future. Dhoni is widely acknowledged as the finest captain in the history of the Indian cricket team. His remarkable leadership has steered the team to triumph in every ICC Trophy related to white-ball cricket, and he also guided India to attain the number one ranking in the Test format.
Dhoni, who has been on a hiatus from international cricket since the 2019 ODI World Cup, was spotted with the Indian team during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE.
“MS Dhoni could take over the coaching role (in the Indian team) a little bit later. I think that is how it should be. I do believe that you need a little bit of cooling off period before you take any assignment with the team (after retiring as a player). Be it the selection committee, the manager, or the coach, I think you need a 2 or 3-year cooling off period because you are making decisions about the player that you have been playing with. You can give anyone a three-year cooling-off period and then look at it,” Sunil Gavaskar said while talking to Star Sports.
