Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar celebrates his 76th birthday today, July 10, 2025. Known fondly as the ‘Little Master’, Gavaskar was India’s first true batting superstar — a cricketer who gave an entire generation belief that India could compete and succeed on the world stage.
In an era when fast bowling dominated the game, Gavaskar stood tall with his rock-solid technique, unshakable temperament, and remarkable consistency. He represented India in 233 international matches, amassing 13,214 runs. He made history by becoming the first player ever to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and played a pivotal role in establishing India as a competitive force in the international arena.
Gavaskar was also a part of India’s iconic 1983 World Cup-winning team, a moment that transformed the way the world viewed Indian cricket.
Tributes have poured in from across the cricketing community. The Mumbai Cricket Association, where Gavaskar’s cricketing journey began, wrote: “Happy Birthday to the icon who redefined Indian cricket – Sunil Gavaskar, the Little Master!”
