Sunil Joshi has parted ways with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the next season. The former spin bowling coach has informed the franchise of his unavailability for the upcoming season.
An official from the franchise told Cricbuzz,
“He has written to us about his unavailability for the coming season. He is a good guy, and the franchise has a good relationship with him. But we don’t want to come in the way of someone’s career growth.”
Joshi’s next role could be at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE), where he is expected to replace Sairaj Bahutule, who recently parted ways with the Rajasthan Royals. The BCCI had earlier invited applications for the position at the CoE in March this year.
The 55-year-old was also part of the franchise’s coaching group in the past, during Anil Kumble’s tenure as head coach of PBKS. He also had a short coaching stint with the Uttar Pradesh team.
In the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, Joshi was involved as a member of the support staff and even travelled with the India A side for the two red-ball matches against Australia A in Lucknow.
At the CoE, Joshi will work closely with CoE Head VVS Laxman and assist both capped and uncapped spinners.
