Sunrisers Hyderabad scripted history in a record-breaking performance during their Indian Premier League clash against Mumbai Indians. SRH set a new milestone by posting 277/3 in 20 overs, surpassing the previous highest total in IPL history, held by RCB since 2013.
Mumbai’s game plan seemed to falter against SRH’s onslaught. Despite potentially strategising to utilise Jasprit Bumrah against Heinrich Klaasen, SRH’s aggressive approach, led by debutant Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, dismantled Mumbai’s bowling lineup in the initial overs.
Travis Head’s explosive half-century in just 18 balls set a new record for SRH, swiftly overshadowed by Abhishek Sharma’s blistering fifty in a mere 16 deliveries. The duo capitalised on debutant pacer Kwena Maphaka’s inexperience, propelling SRH to a formidable total.
While Jasprit Bumrah contained the damage to some extent, remaining wicketless but economical, SRH’s relentless batting assault continued. Head’s innings of 62 off 24 balls, complemented by Abhishek’s aggressive 63 off 23 balls, set the stage for Klaasen’s late power-hitting spectacle.
Klaasen’s unbeaten 80 off 34 balls, featuring a barrage of boundaries and sixes, provided the finishing touches to the innings.
