Suryakumar Yadav played a captain’s knock on his 35th birthday to lead India to a seven-wicket victory in a high-voltage match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Dubai.

Chasing the target of 128, Surya came to bat when India lost their first wicket at 22. The second wicket fell in the fourth over. It was Abhishek Sharma. Tilak Varma joined Surya in the middle, and they stitched a partnership of 56 runs off 52 balls. It gave solidity to the innings.

After Tilak was dismissed for 31, Shivam Dube joined the captain at the crease, and the two ensured that India chased down the target easily.

Surya took some time to settle down in the early stages of his innings. Though this was not a typically flamboyant knock from him, the innings was important from India’s point of view as he remained till the end to guide his team to victory. His 47 off 37 balls included five fours and a six. The strike rate was 127.03.

India lead the table in Group A with four points. Their next match is against Oman on September 19. Pakistan will play against UAE on September 17.
