India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is set to return to Mumbai’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which starts on November 26. His inclusion in the squad is beneficial for Mumbai, who are aiming to defend their title. The tournament will also give Suryakumar an excellent opportunity to regain his form before India’s T20I matches at home.
Suryakumar was brilliant with the bat for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025, where he scored 717 runs with an impressive strike rate of 161.97. However, he hasn’t been able to replicate that form for India this year. In the Asia Cup, he scored only 72 runs in six innings at an average of 18.00. This was followed by the Australia tour, where he made 84 runs in four T20I innings. Notably, he has not hit a single fifty so far this year.
The former number one-ranker T20I batter will hope to find his rhythm again before India play South Africa in the five-match T20I series starting next month.
Shardul Thakur will captain Mumbai. Other prominent names in the squad are Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan, Ajinkya Rahane and Ayush Mhatre.
Shreyas Iyer, who led the team to the title, was not considered as he is battling an injury.
Mumbai will begin their campaign against Railways in Lucknow on November 26.
