Team India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently undergoing a rehabilitation program at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, focusing on his fitness ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup.

The rehabilitation follows his hernia surgery in Munich, which he announced back in June.

“Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back (sic),” he wrote on social media.

The surgery took place in July. Due to his unavailability, Suryakumar was not considered for selection in the West Zone squad for the 2025 Duleep Trophy. The selectors named Shardul Thakur as captain, with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshpande included in the 15-member squad.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Suryakumar is fully preparing for his next assignment — the Asia Cup in the UAE, scheduled to take place from 9 to 28 September. The 34-year-old is expected to regain full fitness soon, with promising signs as he was recently seen batting in the nets.

Suryakumar was last seen in competitive action for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the Mumbai T20 League in June. Prior to that, he had a stellar IPL 2025 campaign, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer with 717 runs, including five half-centuries, at an average of 65.18.

India will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on 10 September, followed by a high-octane clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on 14 September.
