India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany, and is now on the road to recovery. The Mumbai-based cricketer confirmed the development through a post on his social media.

As previously reported by RevSportz, the key figure in India’s T20I batting line-up had travelled to the UK to consult a specialist, where it was determined that surgery was required. This marks Suryakumar’s third surgery in as many years—following an ankle operation in 2023 and a previous hernia procedure in 2024.

Providing an update on his condition, the 34-year-old wrote: “Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back.”

Suryakumar Yadav doubtful for the Bangladesh series

There is currently no official timeline for his return to international cricket. With rehabilitation and recovery likely to take several weeks, Suryakumar’s availability for India’s upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh in August remains uncertain.

Suryakumar was last seen in national colours during the T20I series against England, where he struggled with the bat. However, he bounced back strongly during IPL 2025, amassing 717 runs in 16 innings for Mumbai Indians, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer. In the T20 Mumbai League that followed, he scored 122 runs in five innings while representing the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East.
