India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav continued his red-hot IPL form with a brilliant half-century, but it was not enough as Triumph Knights Mumbai North East lost to Eagle Thane Strikers in their T20 Mumbai League 2025 match at Wankhede Stadium.

Batting first at the Wankhede Stadium, the Knights posted a strong total of 179 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Suryakumar, who had recently won the Most Valuable Player award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, brought his superb form into the innings. He scored a rapid 50 runs off just 25 balls, displaying dominance over the Thane Strikers’ bowlers with his trademark shots and innovative stroke play.

Strikers Chase Down Target with Big Hits from Lavande and Patil

Despite Surya’s efforts, the Triumph Knights could not defend the total. Eagle Thane Strikers put on a commanding performance in the chase. Varun Lavande led the attack with a solid 57 from 38 balls, while Sairaj Patil sealed the deal with a quick-fire 47 off just 22 balls. Their fearless batting helped the Eagle Thane Strikers win comfortably, handing the Knights a tough defeat.

Although the result did not go in the Knights’ favour, Suryakumar’s form is a big boost for Indian cricket. With the T20I series against Bangladesh coming up in August, fans will be hopeful of seeing more of his trademark shots for the Men in Blue.
