T20 World Cup 2026: Ahmedabad to Host Opener and Final, Mumbai to Stage Semifinal

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has been shortlisted to host one of the semi-finals in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. The world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, can also host both the tournament opener and the final. While the schedule has not yet been released, the multi-nation event is expected to take place from 7 February to 8 March in India and Sri Lanka.

The ICC and the host nations are focusing on better planning and smooth logistics for teams and fans by concentrating the venues in a few major cities. If India and Pakistan meet in a semi-final, that match will be shifted to Colombo, as per the agreement between the boards, since Pakistan will only play at a neutral venue. The second semi-final is likely to be played in Mumbai.

Sri Lanka can make three venues—Premadasa Stadium, Pallekele, and either Dambulla or Hambantota—available to host matches. In India, matches are expected to be played in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad was one of the key venues of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Bengaluru is also expected to host the warm-up games; however, its inclusion remains uncertain due to safety clearance concerns following the stampede incident during RCB’s celebrations. Lucknow’s inclusion as a host venue is also unclear.

The BCCI has already decided not to use the venues that recently hosted the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. These venues include Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Navi Mumbai. According to the details, if Sri Lanka qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in their own country, and if Pakistan reaches the final, it will be moved to a neutral venue.
