Vice-captain Tahlia McGrath said Australia’s women’s cricket team is ready for the ODIs and World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, even though many of the stadiums will be new to them.

The new mix of venues will be challenging for all teams, even to those who are familiar with the subcontinent. Indore’s Holkar and Guwahati’s Barsapara stadiums have never hosted women’s ODIs before. Navi Mumbai will host its first women’s 50over games, and then Australia will return to Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium for the first time since 2016.

McGrath explained the task before the three-match ODI series against India in New Chandigarh. “We have been quite lucky, we feel like we’re travelling to India every second month almost,” she said. “Spent a lot of time over here, played in these conditions a lot, but we’re playing in some parts that we’re not very familiar with.[We are] in New Chandigarh at the moment, never been here before, [and] lots of the World Cup venues never been to before.

Head coach Shelley Nitschke has asked the men’s team for tips on places like Colombo. McGrath said, “It’s about learning the conditions, adapting to the conditions, being flexible and communicating really well as a group because it is a little bit foreign to us.”

McGrath is confident in the squad’s depth. “We’ve been pretty settled with our squad for quite a while now, so we’ve been pretty lucky with that,” she said. “Not sure what Shell’s got in mind, but we’ve got so much talent, so much depth over here that it doesn’t really matter what team we throw out or what batting order, all that sort of thing, we’re in pretty good hands.”

Australia begin their tour of India with an unofficial Test in Lucknow on September 16. Their first ICC Women’s World Cup match is against New Zealand at Indore’s Holkar Stadium on October 1, 2025.
