Under a gloomy sky and stormy weather in Taiwan, Indian athletes lit up Day 1 of the Taiwan Athletics Open 2025 (a Bronze-level Continental Tour event).
At the Taiwan Municipal Athletics Stadium, India began its campaign in dominant fashion right from the heats. On Saturday, Indian athletes competed in six events and clinched gold medals in all six, showcasing sheer dominance on the opening day of the tournament.
India’s campaign got off to a golden start from Pooja. She delivered a stellar performance in the women’s 1500m, clinching gold with an impressive time of 4:11.65. Pooja continues with her sensational form, having bagged a silver in the 1500m and a bronze in the 800m at the Asian Athletics Championships last week.
Jyothi Yarraji gave a golden finish in women’s 100m Hurdles. Despite a slow start, she picked up pace after the fourth hurdle and stormed to victory with an impressive time of 12.99s, clinching the gold medal. This was Jyothi’s second sub-13 performance of the season. She carried her fine form from last week, where she also struck gold at the Asian Athletics Championships.
At the men’s 110m Hurdles, Tejas Shirse delivered a powerful performance to win the gold medal with a season best timing of 13.52s. After missing the Asian Championships due to qualification standards, Tejas made a strong comeback, blazing the track in a dominant fashion.
