The Indian cricket team, who are enjoying a five-day break after their easy win over Nepal in the Asia Cup, decided to make the most of their time by having an intense workout session in the gym on Thursday. The players were seen lifting heavy weights, doing squats, and engaging in various drills to keep themselves fit and ready for the upcoming matches. The current crop of Indian players seems determined to stay in top form and make their mark in the Asia Cup. Their dedication to fitness and training is evident, and fans can expect exciting displays in the days to come.
The players, including stars like Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, were spotted hitting the gym for an intense workout session.
The team also had an indoor net session under the watchful eyes of Rahul Dravid, the head coach, and Vikram Rathour, the batting coach.
Kuldeep Yadav, the team’s left-arm wrist spinner, said that the gap before their next game was an opportunity for them to work on their bodies. “Today’s session was a bit intense as we will have three days to rest and recover before game day,” he said in a video released by the BCCI.
Ishan Kishan, the team’s wicketkeeper-batsman, also explained the importance of maintaining a routine and training regularly. “Since we have to play matches regularly, we need to get into a routine and train,” he said. “If we don’t indulge in workout sessions, then it may lead to muscle loss.”
Shardul Thakur, the team’s star all-rounder, revealed the team’s plan for the next few days leading up to their first Super 4s clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. “This is the first time that during a tournament, we have a four-day or a five-day break, otherwise, we would usually travel, we have a day off and we play but this time around we have five days off so collectively everyone’s thinking we might as well use it,” he said. “Today was the day we could push ourselves in the gym to get our strength back and from tomorrow onwards we’ll get back to the field. We will have a light practice session.”
India are yet to play a game in the Super 4s stage and will face a confident Pakistan side, who have already won their opening game against Bangladesh. The match is expected to be a high-voltage encounter as both teams will look to gain an edge over each other in the race for the final. The match will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 10.
