The Indian cricket team has been dominating the ICC World Cup 2023, winning all their five matches so far and securing the top spot in the points table. Most of the latest sports articles even agree to that. They have shown their prowess in all departments of the game, from batting to bowling and fielding. Their latest victory against New Zealand was another example of their clinical performance.

But what makes this Indian team so special? There are few better equipped to answer this question than Wasim Akram, the legendary Pakistan fast bowler and former captain who was man of the match in the 1992 final. He has been following India’s progress closely and praising them on various platforms, who is widely regarded as the greatest left-arm pace bowler of all time, has been impressed by the Indian team’s balance, depth, skill, and execution. He has compared them to a runaway train whose brakes have failed, making them almost unstoppable.

On A Sports, a Pakistan-based channel, Akram said: “Simply unstoppable. They are like a runaway train that has its brakes failed. They have the weapons, the merit, the skills, and most importantly, they know how to execute their plans.”

He also lauded the Indian team’s ability to adapt to different situations and conditions and make changes to their playing XI accordingly. He cited the example of how they brought in Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav in place of the injured Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur, and how Shami, in particular, repaid the team management’s faith with a stunning five-wicket haul.

“They did one change according to the situation,” said Akram. “Squads should be such, like India and New Zealand’s, so that if anybody is injured or out of touch or you want to play someone according to opposition or pitch (then you have such resources available). India played Shami, because Hardik was injured. They dropped Shardul Thakur, SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) was brought in as a new batter. Then Shami got a wicket off the first ball of his spell.”

was not the only former Pakistan captain who heaped praise on the Indian team. Shoaib Malik, who played for Pakistan between 1999 and 2021, also congratulated India on their win against New Zealand and appreciated their chase.

“Kya chase kiyahai (What a chase it was),” Malik tweeted. “Well done, Team India.”

It is not often that we see such admiration and respect from Pakistan cricketers for their arch-rivals. But such is the quality and consistency of this Indian team that even their fiercest opponents have to acknowledge their supremacy.

The Indian team has been playing like a champion side, and they have already almost qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup. They have four more matches to play before they face their next big challenge in the knockouts.

Can anyone stop this runaway train? Or will they continue their march towards glory and lift the trophy on home soil? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: this Indian team looks unstoppable.
