Sachin Tendulkar, now a mentor to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) lavished praise on the ‘talented’ Cameron Green ahead of the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia, starting at The Oval on June 7.
Green, who was acquired by Mumbai Indians for a staggering price of Rs 18.50 crore, became the most expensive Australian player ever purchased at the IPL auction following an intense bidding war. His exceptional performance in IPL 2023 saw him accumulate an impressive 452 runs in 16 matches, boasting an average of 50.22 and an equally remarkable strike-rate of 160.28. With first-hand experience of Green’s abilities, Tendulkar spoke highly of his potential.
“He (Cameron Green) is a talented cricketer without any doubt,” Tendulkar told 100mbsports. “He made a huge statement in the IPL. It’s a different format- T20, but one could see that he’s a big guy and he could generate that power while batting.”
One of the standout qualities in Green’s bowling is his ability to extract extra bounce from the surface, thanks to his height. This attribute has been instrumental in his success on the lively pitches in Australia. However, as he embarks on his first tour to England, he will encounter a new test: the Dukes ball, known for its longevity and assistance to swing bowlers.
“Even bowling, if he bends his back and lets the ball go through, he can get that extra bounce at the Oval,” said Tendulkar. “The Oval pitch has a lot of bounce which is similar to Australian surfaces, and if (Cameron) Green is going to bend his back and bowl short spells and let the ball go through, he can be a handy customer.”
