Indian shuttlers will be looking to rediscover their form as they head into the Thailand Open 2025, a Super 500 tournament set to begin on 13 May in Pathumwan, Bangkok, with qualifiers starting Tuesday. The tournament will run until 18 May and marks a crucial stop on the BWF Tour in the build-up to the World Championships in Paris, France.

A major highlight is the return of India’s top women’s doubles pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who are back after battling injuries that followed their All England Open quarter-final finish. Treesa had been sidelined with a shoulder injury, while Gayatri was recovering from a back issue.

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, India’s highest-ranked player, will look to bounce back after a rough patch since the Paris Olympics. His best recent result came at the All England Open in March, where he reached the quarter-finals. However, he suffered a disappointing Round of 32 exit at the Badminton Asia Championships, losing in straight games to world No. 13 Lee Chia Hao, the same player whom rising star Ayush Shetty beat convincingly in the Chinese Taipei Open.

Lakshya opens his campaign against world No. 34 Nhat Nguyen, while Ayush will start in the qualification rounds, taking on Finland’s Joakim Oldorff.

Notably absent is PV Sindhu, who will be skipping this Super 500 event. Her absence shifts the spotlight to emerging talents like Unnati Hooda, who recently made headlines with a semi-final finish at the Chinese Taipei Open.

The tournament comes at a crucial time for Indian badminton. The shuttlers are eager to bounce back from a disappointing Sudirman Cup campaign, where they failed to get past the group stage, suffering 4-1 losses to both Denmark and Indonesia, teams they had overcome during their historic 2022 Thomas Cup triumph.
