The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a brand-new tournament for women’s cricket called the Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy. Thailand will host the tournament from 20 to 30 November.
Eight teams will take part in the tournament. Five of these teams have ODI status, and the other three are the highest-ranked T20I teams as of 1 May 2025. All teams will play each other once in a round-robin format. Two grounds in Bangkok — Terdthai Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology Ground — will host the matches.
The host country is the highest-ranked team in the tournament (11th), and they are on a nine-match winning streak. However, they will face strong competition, especially from Scotland, who are considered one of the favourites even without their captain, Kathryn Bryce. The UAE also return to Thailand for this tournament, particularly after beating Zimbabwe 2–0 in October.
The Netherlands enter the tournament with confidence after qualifying for the next Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier. Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda also qualified for the tournament from Africa through their T20I rankings. Among them, Namibia are the best-ranked side, sitting 17th. Papua New Guinea are another team in the tournament after winning their regional qualifiers.
Two more women’s events will be hosted in 2026 and 2027, as confirmed by the ICC, in order to give Associate teams more opportunities to improve and compete at a higher level and on the global stage.
