The Ashes: Mark Wood Cleared of Hamstring Injury

Mark Wood has been cleared of a hamstring injury ahead of England’s opening Ashes Test in Perth. However, he will not partake on the final day of England’s practice game versus England Lions at Lilac Hill.

The England Cricket release noted: “Following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any concerns regarding his left hamstring.

“He is not expected to feature today – the third day of England’s warm-up match against the Lions XI at Lilac Hill Park, Perth. Wood will continue to train as planned in the build-up to the first Test in Perth.”

Wood felt a tightness in his left hamstring after bowling his eighth over on Day 1 of the warm-up match. This injury scare raised concerns because it was Wood’s first match since his knee surgery in March. Even though the scans confirmed no damage, it remains to be seen whether England would take a risk by picking Wood for the Perth game.

Meanwhile, Brydon Carse has replaced Wood in the warm-up match. Initially, Carse was not available for the game because of health issues.
