England veteran Stuart Broad bowled with skill and nous to pick up the prized scalps of Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith on day four of the opening Ashes Test. However, Broad pointed out that it would have been even better if England had picked up another scalp before the end of another enthralling day of Test cricket. Night-watchman Scott Boland and Usman Khawaja, though, were able to wade through the tricky little period before close of play.
One of the key features of Broad’s bowling was his ability to find a hint of movement away from the batter, which in turn helped him to pick up the key scalps of Labuschagne and Smith.
“I wanted one more tonight really, the ball was just moving a nice amount but those two scrapped really well at the end, I thought,” Broad said to Sky Sports. “It feels like if you can bash away, not much is happening, then one moves. Coming into that, if I can just whack the pitch as hard as I can and create a bit of movement and theatre. If you can get the crowd going and create a bit of theatre, you can almost feel like something is happening when it is not.”
