South African batter Ryan Rickelton had some kind words to share after their team won the World Test Championship Final 2025 at Lord’s against Australia. During a post-match interaction, the wicketkeeper-cum-batter talked about the intricacy and importance of the fourth day of the WTC Final for the Proteas. Rickelton also credited Markram’s century innings on Day 3.

“Walking out in the fourth innings was always going to be tricky. The wicket trying to look a little better. The guys batted brilliantly. Aiden’s was one of the best innings I have ever seen. The magnitude of the occasion against such an experienced attack was special,” Rickelton said.

“We wanted to absorb the pressure early and then take it forward.” – Rickelton

Before entering today’s (Day 4) game, the batter shared his thoughts on his performance. Rickelton mentioned the confidence within the team and how they tried to emerge from the early pressure put up by the Australians.

“I was out but I was pretty calm. The group was pretty confident. We wanted to absorb the pressure early and then take it forward. There were a few nerves,” he said. Unlike Markram, Rickelton had a disappointing outing in both innings as he scored 16 runs in the first and six runs in the second. But still, as a team, they did it and put an end to the 27-year-long drought of any ICC title by the senior Proteas men’s team.
