Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Shreyas Gopal praised MS Dhoni, saying that if he stretches his career, it would be ‘beneficial’ for the game. In an interview with Sports Yaari, Gopal opened up about the lessons he has learned from Dhoni.
“It’s very hard to be MS Dhoni. People think it’s very easy to be MS Dhoni. Mainly, it’s basically how to handle a player, how to put a player in a tournament, who to use for the specific over. Tactically, there have been so many talks with him. And there’s no one better than him. Everyone knows that. So, learning captaincy, learning how to finish matches, just learning how to, the way he deals with his stardom.”
Gopal was picked up by CSK for his base price of Rs 30 lakh, but he did not get a chance to play in the 2025 IPL season.
The leg-spinner believes that sharing the dressing room with Dhoni is invaluable for any cricketer, and he wants to utilise this opportunity for a few more years.
“To play with Dhoni was a dream for many of us, billions of us maybe. I got that chance last year, and I would love to continue that for a few more years. The more he plays the game, the more it’s beneficial for cricket. And the discussions that we have with him in the dressing room, the inputs we get, it’s just priceless.” added Gopal.
Dhoni has not given any hint about whether he will be available to play in the 2026 IPL, and fans are eager to see him in action again.
