Tim David, Australia’s Singapore-born middle-order batter, has been called up to the ODI squad for the first time, for the upcoming series against South Africa in September. This opportunity comes close on the heels of his impressive 64-run blitz off 28 balls against South Africa in the initial T20I match on August 30 in Durban.
According to Cricket Australia selector Tony Dodemaide, “Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format,” said Tony Dodemaide, one of Cricket Australia’s selectors. “He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings.”
Despite having played just 16 List-A matches in his career, David boasts an impressive average of 82.77 and a strike-rate of 123.14. This includes five half-centuries and two centuries. While most of his List-A appearances occurred were for Singapore and Surrey, he has only featured in one game on the Australian domestic circuit.
This call-up could puts David in the frame for a place in the World Cup squad, even though he wasn’t part of the initial 18-member provisional list. The five-match ODI series commences on September 7 in Bloemfontein.
