A 110-run defeat to end a limp campaign. As a Kolkata Knight Riders fan, should you feel disappointed? May be not. This team needs change.

Members of the coaching staff have outlived their usefulness. A good last game would have meant all of these issues stayed under the veil. Fans would speak about that and not much would change. Not now. The gloves are off and cracks exposed. KKR is not the team it was in 2024. The management has to take stock and ring in the changes.

If the fans were hoping for a good end to a bad season, everything that could go wrong went wrong in the last game. The bowling was disastrous and batting no better. KKR just weren’t there and that’s what is surprising. For a professional franchise, every game is important. So what if you aren’t in the playoff race?

SRH too were out and yet turned up with a purpose. You owe it to your fans more than anything else. Chennai Super Kings, who had a really poor campaign, finished off with a good last game. They showed fight. KKR did not. Against the SRH assault, they had no answers. In the end, it was a meek surrender.

What next for KKR, is the question. Chandrakant Pandit as head coach has to go. His style isn’t suited for the IPL and he needs to give way to someone like Gautam Gambhir, who can control the dressing room better.

Will KKR want to continue with Ajinkya Rahane, their skipper and highest scorer? That Venkatesh Iyer will be traded is now known. RevSportz did a story to this effect a few days back. In sport, you lose more than you win and that’s acceptable.

At the moment, you need to take stock, go back to the drawing board, accept failure and start the rebuilding process. It is a long road back but that’s what sport is all about. In all of this, the fans are always with you. It is for them that you need to recalibrate and ring in the changes. The end has served as an opportunity. Time for KKR to take it and move ahead.
