Indian Women’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka was announced yesterday, with Harmanpreet Kaur set to lead the side. The squad features a blend of experienced names and fresh faces, as India begin preparations for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held later this year in India.

Players like Sneh Rana, Yastika Bhatia, Arundhati Reddy, and Amanjot Kaur have made a return to the squad. Young talents Kashvee Gautam and N Shree Charani received their maiden ODI call-ups. The tri-series will act as an important stage to test India’s bench strength and readiness ahead of the big tournament.

Following the announcement, RevSportz spoke exclusively with Nagesh Gupta, the coach and mentor of both Kashvee and Amanjot. He could not hide his emotions when asked about the double call-up. “I am elated, I am overjoyed and very happy right now,” he said, expressing pride at seeing two of his trainees make it to the national team together.

Reflecting on their journey, Coach Gupta highlighted the key role of recent performances. He pointed to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Senior Women’s Multi-Day Challenger Trophy as major contributors. “Yeah, the performances in the recent tournaments, be it the WPL or the multi-day challenges, played an important role in the selection and they performed well in both the tournaments,” he added.

In the 2025 WPL, Kashvee, representing Gujarat Giants (GG), was their highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets in nine matches. Amanjot, playing for Mumbai Indians (MI), helped her team win the title by scoring 128 runs from the lower order in seven innings at an average of 42.66 and a strike rate of 133.33, along with five wickets.

Both players were also part of Team D, led by Sneh Rana, which won the Senior Women’s Multi-Day Challenger Trophy yesterday. Both Kashvee and Amanjot hit centuries in the tournament, with Kashvee also impressing with the ball.

Coach Gupta said he had messaged both players after the news was announced. “Yeah, I sent them messages and they have seen those messages. They are also very happy,” he said, describing their reactions.

Although it might be Kashvee’s maiden call-up, Amanjot is making a comeback to the Indian setup after playing her last international game in January 2024. 2024 was a challenging year for both all-rounders. Despite being the most expensive player at the WPL 2024 auction—bought by GG for ₹2 crore—Kashvee missed the entire tournament due to a toe injury. Amanjot also missed most of the year due to a back stress fracture and a hand ligament injury.

Now fully fit, both have made strong comebacks across formats and have earned this opportunity. With Pooja Vastrakar yet to return from injury, the tri-series will give India a chance to test these two all-rounders ahead of the World Cup.

Coach Gupta concluded with high hopes: “The expectation as ever has been whenever they play in a tournament is to show their skills as they have done in WPL or in the domestic BCCI tournament. Now it is time to show their skillsets for the Indian team and perform like champions.”
