Bengal Warriorz have named Naveen Kumar as their new head coach for the upcoming season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), the franchise announced on Thursday. A respected figure in Indian kabaddi, Naveen Kumar brings with him years of experience as both a player and a coach, along with a proven ability to develop young talent and lead teams to success.

A former India international, Kumar’s playing career was decorated with multiple gold medals, including triumphs at the 10th South Asian Games (2006), the 15th Asian Games (2006), the 2nd World Cup (2007), and the 2nd Indoor Asian Games (2007). Known for his tenacity and deep understanding of the game, Kumar’s journey from player to mentor has been equally impressive.

Over the years, Kumar has coached several prominent teams, including the Indian Navy and Sports Authority of India squads, guiding them to top finishes at national tournaments. His reputation for grooming young players and instilling a strong team ethic makes him a natural fit for the Warriorz, one of the founding franchises in the league.

Speaking about his new role, Kumar said, “It’s an honour to join Bengal Warriorz. My focus will be on building a cohesive and competitive unit that can challenge for the title. We have ample time to prepare and I’m excited to work closely with the players to bring the best out of them.”

Warriorz CEO Apurv Gupta expressed confidence in Kumar’s leadership, stating, “Naveen Kumar’s experience and vision are exactly what we need. His strategic thinking and ability to shape young talent will be crucial as we aim for a successful campaign.”

The Warriorz are set to begin preparations for the new season in the coming weeks.
