Stuart Broad expressed his elation after England’s remarkable performance against Australia in an Ashes Test match. Reflecting on the game, Broad highlighted the incredible impact made by Chris Woakes (4/50) and Moeen Ali (3/76) after the rain break, setting the tone for the team.
In a thrilling final day of the Test match, Australia began their chase of 384 with a strong start at 135-0. With Steve Smith still dominating at the crease and the score at 264-3, they seemed to be the favourites. However, the tide turned when the hosts charged back into the game.
Australia’s innings reached 329-8 before witnessing a fairytale finish. Stuart Broad, who had earlier announced his retirement, thrilled the crowd as he induced an edge from Todd Murphy, prompting jubilant cheers around the stadium.
In the ensuing overs, Broad struck again, this time dismissing Alex Carey, securing the win and marking the end of his legendary career.
“It was absolutely wonderful. Coming on after the rain break, Chris Woakes and Moeen (Ali) set the tone unbelievably. Once we got a couple we really began to believe. It was just so loud out there and we really jumped on the back of the energy of the crowd. To pick up a couple of wickets at the end of this Test match and contribute to the team is something very special, said Stuart Broad after the match.
“I suppose when you make that decision to move on from the game, you wonder what your last ball will be. For it to be a wicket to win an Ashes Test match is pretty cool,” Broad further added.
