England will lock horns against South Africa in the opening fixture of this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup on October 3 in Dhaka. According to an official announcement on Sunday, India and Pakistan will play against each other on October 6 in Sylhet.
India’s first game is against New Zealand on October 4. It is an evening fixture. Australia are also in this group. Two teams will progress from this stage, which practically makes it a three-horse race in Group A between India, Australia and New Zealand.
Australia, the six-time champions, play the winners of the Qualifiers on October 4. Hosts Bangladesh will start against the runners-up of the Qualifiers in Dhaka on October 3.
Ten nations are taking part in the tournament. A total of 23 matches will be held across the two venues. The top two from the two groups will progress to the semifinals. The first semifinal is on October 17 in Sylhet and second in Dhaka a day later. Dhaka will host the final on October 20. The semifinals and final will have reverse days.
Group A: Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and one qualifier.
Group B: England, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh and one qualifier.
