The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to hold a closing ceremony for IPL 2025 during the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3. The IPL Governing Council met on Tuesday to finalise the venues for the playoff matches. New Chandigarh’s Mullanpur got Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, while Ahmedabad was allotted Qualifier 2 and the final.
While there were other topics that came up during the meeting, including increasing the cut-off time for matches from May 20 onwards owing to the adverse weather conditions in several parts of the country, the closing ceremony was widely discussed, as per sources in the know.
Following the brief halt in the competition following the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the theme of the closing ceremony is likely to be on a patriotic note, as a tribute to the Indian armed forces.
While the performers for the closing ceremony are not finalised, several top artists are likely to perform before the summit clash in the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. With the amphitheatre expected to be packed, a patriotic closing ceremony would be a major statement from India after its strong stand against terror-related activities. Though it is yet to be confirmed, several top ministers could be present for the blockbuster finale.
Since the IPL 2025 has resumed, the national anthem has been played at several venues and participating teams and the crowd have paid tributes to the armed forces, with big screens thanking them for their heroics at the border.
