The Texas Super Kings (TSK) have officially qualified for the playoffs of Major League Cricket 2025 after a convincing 39-run win over MI New York (MI NY). With this victory, TSK now sit third on the points table with 10 points. They still have three league matches remaining and will be aiming for a top-two finish to gain a stronger position heading into the playoffs.
Batting first, Texas posted a commanding total of 223/4. Faf du Plessis was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 103 off just 53 balls, including five boundaries and nine sixes, at a strike rate of 194.33. He received solid support from Donovan Ferreira, who blasted 53 off only 20 balls, while Marcus Stoinis contributed 25 runs. Their explosive batting display helped TSK breach the 220-run mark with ease.
In response, MI New York could only manage 184/9 in their 20 overs. Akeal Hosein delivered a superb spell, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs in his 4 overs. Nandre Burger and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with two wickets each, further denting MI NY’s chase.
Faf du Plessis Bags Player of the Match Award
At the post-match presentation, Faf du Plessis praised the team’s batting and how they adapted to the conditions.
“I think in the first six overs, we try to be nice and positive, so we get that really good start in the Powerplay. But then it did feel like the wicket started to slow down before the game. Also thought it might be a little bit slower than other venues, and that was the case if you took pace off. It wasn’t easy. So l thought anything above 185, to get to that 200-plus on that wicket, it was a batting effort from everyone.”
