Marking the end of an era, veteran sports administrator Swapan Sadhan ‘Tutu’ Bose has officially announced his retirement from all positions at the historic Mohun Bagan Athletic Club.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the club’s secretary and executive committee members, Bose cited personal reasons for his decision, emphasising his longstanding emotional bond with the institution. “Mohun Bagan Club has been like family to me,” Bose wrote. “I have always tried to serve the club to the best of my abilities.”

The letter

Bose, a former Chairman of the club, expressed that with elections approaching and a new board being constituted under the leadership of retired Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, it was the right time for him to step away. He clarified that while he has no complaints, he believes that no position should be pursued merely for the sake of holding onto power. “It is neither correct nor dignified,” he stated.

Appealing to members for their understanding, Bose requested them to allow him to “peacefully leave” his responsibilities, asserting that he would always remain emotionally attached to Mohun Bagan.

Swapan Sadhan Bose’s retirement brings to a close a significant chapter in Mohun Bagan’s history. His leadership and contributions were instrumental during several pivotal moments for the club, enhancing its stature in Indian football and sports.
