Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history during the encounter between the India U19 and Bangladesh U19 teams in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 by surpassing Virat Kohli’s tally of runs in Youth ODIs.
The 14-year-old batter needed just three runs to overtake the Indian legend before this match. He achieved the milestone when he drove the first ball of the third over for a boundary. The left-hander was instrumental in rebuilding the innings after India lost two wickets for just 12 runs inside the first three overs. He stitched together a 41-run partnership off 41 balls with Vihaan Malhotra and then added 62 runs off 99 balls with wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu.
Sooryavanshi completed his fifty with a single in just 30 balls. He slowed down slightly thereafter but was batting fluently before losing his wicket in the 27th over after scoring 72 off 67 balls. His innings was laced with six fours and three sixes. He bounced back strongly after a poor start to the tournament, having scored just two runs in the opening match. India went on to win the match by 18 runs (DLS method).
