Mumbai, September 17, 2025: U Mumba capped a commanding Vizag leg in PKL’s 12th edition with a top-three finish, built on emphatic wins and composed turnarounds. Captain Sunil Kumar marshalled a disciplined defense, while raiders Ajit Chouhan, Anil Jasta, and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh spread the points with poise and strategy. Now, as the Jaipur leg approaches, the focus is on sustaining this upward momentum.
Built on a blend of youth and experience, U Mumba’s defensive unit led by all-time PKL most successful captain Sunil Kumar and reinforced by NYP retention Lokesh and key injury replacement signing Vijay Kumar, regularly shifted momentum with timely super tackles and all-outs, disrupting opposition rhythm and maintaining formidable defensive structure.
“The season’s goal is clear: to build on our progress, stay consistent, and keep pushing towards the championship. Every leg, including Jaipur, is an important step in that direction. For us, the priorities remain strengthening defensive discipline, improving raid conversion under pressure, and ensuring peak fitness levels across the squad,” said Sunil Kumar, Captain of U Mumba.
Ajit Chouhan starred with a Super 10 against Bengaluru Bulls , also notching a remarkable 6-point super raid, an explosive effort drawing comparisons to ‘Record Breaker’ Pardeep Narwal. Sunil Kumar’s clutch tackles and Rinku’s High Five against Bengaluru further reinforced U Mumba’s standing as one of PKL’s most stubborn backlines, fueling their surge into the league’s top three as the caravan heads to Jaipur.
Meanwhile, Anil Jasta now the highest-ever signing in his PKL category at ₹78 lakh delivered consistent all-round value, bringing balance and versatility to both ends of the mat. Young Iranian Amirmohammad Zafardanesh impressed with a headline 12-point game against the Patna, signaling his emergence as a dynamic weapon for U Mumba. At the end of the Vizag leg, U Mumba have amassed 8 points from 6 matches.
“We’ve laid a solid foundation in the opening phase, and now the emphasis shifts to sharpening corner-cover coordination, enhancing efficiency in do-or-die raids, and managing player workloads smartly through the Jaipur leg. With disciplined execution and sustained intensity in training, we are confident of building steady momentum as the season moves ahead,” said Anil Chaprana, Head Coach, U Mumba.
Supported by a rigorous strength-and-conditioning program, U Mumba all set to begin their Jaipur leg on 18th September at the SMS Indoor Stadium, focusing on defensive consistency, raid execution, and collective clarity in roles.
