India Under-19 skipper Ayush Mhatre has urged his teammates to focus on their preparations for what he described as just another ‘normal match’ against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 1.
For the first time in the ongoing ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, India will cross swords with Pakistan in a highly anticipated encounter, which will be the final Super Six fixture for both teams.
The Boys in Blue head into the game with momentum on their side, having won four matches on the trot. Up next are their arch-rivals, Pakistan. Despite the long-standing history between the two nations and the intense atmosphere surrounding such clashes in the Asian subcontinent, Mhatre insists his team should concentrate on their game plan rather than worry about the outcome.
“We are really excited to play against them, and we’ll just play our game and not worry about our opponents. We’ll just play our game and back ourselves,” Mhatre said during the post-match presentation.
Last month, when India and Pakistan met in the Asia Cup final, the Boys in Green handed Mhatre and his team a heavy defeat. However, the past does not weigh on the Indian captain’s mind.
“It’s just another normal match (against Pakistan) for us,” Mhatre told reporters after the Zimbabwe match. “We will focus on our game, our preparations, and not think about them or the result too much.”
In the first Super Six match, India brushed aside Zimbabwe to register a 204-run victory. A win against Pakistan will guarantee them a place in the semi-finals.
