Usain Bolt, the legendary sprinter, has revealed that if he could build a relay team made up solely of cricketers, Indian star batter Virat Kohli would definitely be a part of it. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist, who is currently in India on a promotional tour, said he has always been a big fan of cricket and started his sporting journey as a fast bowler before switching to track and field.
Speaking to India Today, Bolt revealed his team: “We have been talking about this. I think Kohli. He is definitely quick. I know Brett Lee, and I would say Jonty Rhodes.”
Bolt said his coach had advised him to try sprinting. “Well, for me, it was my cricket coach. I was a fast bowler, and my cricket coach kind of saw me running in and he said, ‘You know what, why not try track and field?’ And I tried, and I was really good. I was pretty talented, and that’s something that I just continued,” he Bolt.
Bolt said that if he hadn’t become a sprinter, he would have been a cricketer. He explained: “A cricketer for sure. Yeah, I think if my cricket coach hadn’t said, ‘You know what, go try running,’ I probably would have stuck with cricket, because my dad was a massive cricket fan and that’s all I knew growing up. Cricket, a little bit of football, but all I knew was cricket.”
The 39-year-old Jamaican also named legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose and Jonty Rhodes as the players he admired most while growing up.
