Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper Robin Uthappa has spoken out about the major IPL trade rumours linking Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson to CSK.
According to reports, the Royals have requested either Shivam Dube or Ravindra Jadeja in return.
Samson is being seen as a strong candidate to join CSK. Some reports also suggest that RR may agree to trade Samson only if CSK offers two players in return, though nothing has been confirmed.
Uthappa believes CSK should go all in. “CSK for sure. If they are able to get him, and if they are able to snap him up, then it’ll be really good for him,” he said on his YouTube channel. “I think the transition from MS Dhoni to the next wicketkeeper is already in place with Sanju… If he comes on board, there’s a lot of good that can happen for CSK.”
Uthappa also suggested that CSK could let go of Vijay Shankar.
“Vijay Shankar could be the one who goes with Ashwin as well. That could happen. He’s a pretty decent bowler, but they haven’t utilised him.”
From RR’s perspective, Uthappa feels this could be a great move.
“They have both Yashasvi… and Riyan Parag likes to bat at number three. Where does that leave Sanju Samson? At number four. Would I want to bat at number four when I’m opening for India? Absolutely not.”
The IPL trade window is open and it will remain open until a week before the auction. There have been some eye-catching deals in the history of the IPL, and this year there may be even more to add to the list.
